The only way to avoid an uncomfortable packing period is to avoid getting too comfortable. Unfortunately, I've grown attached to Room 639 and over the course of seven weeks, I've had so many life changing experiences in this very dorm room. So when my roomie, Ciera, had to wipe off the window designs (pictured below) to prepare the room for cleaning, I felt my heart drop a little. There's something unsettling about watching your belongings pack themselves up into cardboard boxes to be sealed up for the fall. I've watched crevices free themselves of clutter, drawers rid themselves of wrinkled papers, and walls find themselves bare.
Seven weeks is the longest I've ever been away from home; luckily, I spent the time working on myself, connecting with lovely like-minded ladies, and learning the ropes of the city. My summer program marks the beginning of my time in Washington, D.C and I can't wait to take you all along with me on my journey! (Below is a slideshow of my summer's highlights.)
From visiting the Supreme Court once same-sex marriage was ruled constitutional to having impromptu photoshoots with my girlfriends, I ended up enjoying the summer way more than I thought I would!
Week seven has definitely been bittersweet, but thankfully, not the hardest week I've experienced while away from home. There were times when I wanted to rip my hair out from stress, homesickness, and overall angst. Being around people 24/7 can be unnerving, especially when you come from a three-person household. But it's all a learning experience and I'm incredibly grateful for this summer because it's allowed me to grow into my own.
Thank you for taking time out of your days to see what I'm up to. I enjoy all the comments on my social media and it's so encouraging to know that people are genuinely interested in my thoughts and adventures!
Until next time!
