Hello all you pretty people! February is nearing its end and I wanted to wrap up the month by showing y'all which products I've been using lately.
As you know, I am a proud curly girl and there are just some products every natural girl should use. SheaMoisture is a great brand for curly and kinky hair of all textures and porosity. (Keep an eye out for a second blog series called Curly Adventures, coming this spring!) I love love love my castor oil. It's perfect for keeping my baby hairs laid, and it also does a great job of strengthening them. Luckily, SheaMoisture products are carried by a lot of mainstream stores like Target and CVS so you shouldn't have trouble finding them if you're out and about.
***For those of you who don't know how to lay your edges, it's pretty simple. I usually spray my baby hairs (these are the little hairs right on your hairline) with water and pat them down on my forehead. Then I use a toothbrush and comb them to the side. Finally, I smear a dab of castor oil on them to set them in place. Important note: DO NOT CUT YOUR BABY HAIRS. They were meant to grow that way! As a Black girl who did not grow up with a lot of Black friends, I admit that I felt sort of out of place because I was one of the few people who had baby hairs. I'll probably discuss this in another post. But the bottom line is, do not mistreat your edges! There are products to help you maintain them and I promise you there is nothing wrong with having baby hairs. You slay.
On to the next product, I have my trusty Anastasia brow kit for filling in and adding highlight to my arch. I talked about this kit earlier in the year and I highly recommend this product to any of you brow lovers!
This is my first winter on the East Coast and I admit, I didn't think the harsh winds would affect my skin that much. Once I started using Glossier's moisturizing primer, my skin felt instantly dewey and ready for whatever weird weather D.C would hit me with. Even if I'm not wearing makeup, this primer is ideal for hydrating your skin while giving it a nice finished look to it. It acts as a layering product as well, if you choose to wear makeup over the primer.
Finally, a great body butter to add to your collection is DHC's Olive Body Butter. My mom gave this product to me for Christmas and I haven't stopped using it. I like to alternate between coconut oil and body butter when it comes to moisturizing my skin.
Moisturizing should be an essential part of your morning routine! Please please please invest in a trusty body moisturizing product. Whether you use shea butter, coconut oil, body butter, or your standard lotion, it is crucial that you treat your skin properly. Remember, long hot showers dry out your skin quickly.
I hope you enjoyed these product reviews. Feel free to send me suggestions or ask questions about the kinds of products I use; you can contact me at email@example.com.
Until next time, friends!
