If you follow me on snapchat (floreashelby), you're familiar with my love of face masks. This is the first post in the Face Masks and Tunes series that I'm starting. With each post, I'll highlight a different face mask and share some tunes to listen to while you pamper your skin! You dig? Cool, let's get started.
The foundation of Herbivore Botanicals is one that I admire very much. All of their products are made with safe, non-toxic, natural ingredients that have proven to help improve and maintain your skin. As soon as I move back into my dorm for the school year, you can count on me stocking up on their products.
Alright y'all. Get your face masks out and press play.
For this face mask, the directions instructed me to use water and mix until it was paste-like. But I can never just stop there. I added a couple drops of apple cider vinegar (seriously, only a couple drops. I used too much one time and started tearing up because the ACV was so strong). If your skin is really begging for some help, you can add a drop or two of frankincense oil. ACV helps to clear up dark marks and frankincense is just all around great for tackling acne.
Avoid using metal objects if you can. Certain clays, like bentonite, can be activated if you use a metal spoon or bowl to make your face mask. I always opt for a plastic spoon and glass bowl when mixing.
I've used this mask a couple times and I figured out a ratio that really works for me. You might like your mask more on the watery side or maybe you like it really thick. I'm happy somewhere in the middle, so this is the ratio I'm sticking with:
- 2 teaspoons of face mask powder
- 1/2 a teaspoon of water
- 1/4 a teaspoon of ACV
- 1/4 a teaspoon of frankincense
Of course, I'm not sitting here with a measuring cup trying to perfect the ratio. This is just a gauge to show you that I like to use less liquid and more powder. You'll be surprised to see just how little of everything you actually need to make one serving of the mask.
I like to apply the mask with the back of a plastic spoon so I don't have to wash my hands, but of course, if you like to apply with your fingers that's perfectly fine too! Leave the mask on for 10-15 minutes and you're ready to wash it off. I've started using this mask in the morning before I get dressed and do my makeup, it's a great way to brighten my skin for the day!
I strongly suggest you head on over to Herbivore Botanicals! I can't wait to try out more of their products, especially as we move into the last days of summer and the beginning of fall. That's all for today, everyone! Stay tuned for the next Face Masks and Tunes post.
